8Geared toward Juniors and Seniors, the MMHS Chamber Singers are a very advanced 32-38 voiced mixed choir that studies highly advanced choral music from a variety of genres. The course is designed to apply the musical and vocal skills learned in previous MMHS Choirs, and is to be taken simultaneously with Concert Choir. Interested students are strongly recommended to invest themselves in private voice lessons. A strong understanding of music fundamentals is also necessary. Again, simultaneous participation in the Concert Choir is required for Chamber Singers. Students must make room in their schedule for two choirs. Participation in the annual choir tour is included with membership in this choir, so long as you meet eligibility guidelines. A summer retreat, designed to "jump-start" the choirs success is also included and expected of all Chamber Singers. Chamber Singers has been invited to sing at multiple state conferences, including UMEA's state conference in February 2023 and February 2020. This group has received all superior ratings at state for the passed 13 years and continues to carry a strong attitude of excellence.
Concert Choir
The MMHS Concert Choir is an auditioned, advanced mixed choir. The Concert Choir studies advanced accompanied and A cappella choral literature form a variety of genres. The choir focuses on the development of vocal and musical skills by the study of vocal technique, music theory, aural training, and music appreciation while aligning with the standards of the Utah State Core Curriculum for Secondary Music, Choir II. An annual choir tour is included in the curriculum, and expected of Concert Choir singers, as it provides unique opportunities for significant personal and ensemble musical enhancement, academic growth and life-lasting memories of incredible times with some of your best friends! Concert Choir has received all superior rating at UMEA state-sanctioned festivals for the past thirteen years.
Sorelle Voce
Sorelle Voce is an advanced women's ensemble which serves two purposes. 1) To provide opportunities for advanced female singers to continue to vocally develop and musically progress, and 2) To help prepare women who want to earn eventual placement within the Concert Choir and/or Chamber Singers. The choir focuses on advanced SSA and SSAA choral music from a variety of genres and composers, and provides necessary knowledge of music fundamentals and vocal technique for more advanced choirs. If desire, scheduling, and successful audition allows, some Sorelle Voce singers will be encouraged to enroll simultaneously with Concert Choir. An annual choir tour is included in the curriculum, and expected of Sorelle Voce ladies, as it provides unique opportunities for significant personal and ensemble musical enhancement, academic growth and life-lasting memories of incredible times with some of your best friends!
Since the opening of Maple Mountain High School in 2009, Sorelle Voce has had an attitude of excellence, receiving all superior ratings at UMEA state-sanctioned festivals for the past thirteen years. They most recently were invited to perform at ACDA Utah in October 2022. In 2012 and 2013 respectively, Maple Mountain's Sorelle Voce was honored to have earned the "Command Performance Award" from their performance at the ACDA-BYU Women's Chorus Festival, and was invited to perform the opening act on the deJong Concert Hall stage at the BYU Women's Chorus concert in the Spring of both years. Additionally, Sorelle Voce was invited to perform at Utah's Trade Secret professional development conference held at Utah State University in Logan, Utah.
Vox Aquile
Vox Aquile is an open-enrollment choir which focuses on TBB and TTBB choral music, and prepares the male voice for more advanced choirs. The choir also focuses on matching pitch, reading music, part-singing, music fundamentals, stage presence, and basic performance skills. Occasionally, this choir will combine with the Belle Voix at concerts. No audition required. A simple screening (visit) with the director is expected. Previous experience in junior high choirs is helpful, but not required. Vox Aquile recently was invited to perform at the ACDA-Utah conference in October of 2022. In 2012, Vox Aquile was honored to have received an invitation to present and perform at the UMEA professional development conference in St. George, UT. Vox Aquile works extremely hard and has received all superior ratings at UMEA state-sanctioned festivals for the past thirteen years.
Belle Voix
Belle Voix is an open-enrollment choir which focuses on SSA and SSAA choral music, and prepares the female voice for more advanced choirs. The choir also focuses on matching pitch, reading music, part-singing, music fundamentals, stage presence, and basic performance skills. Occasionally, this choir will combine with the Vox Aquile at concerts. No audition required. A simple screening (visit) with the director is expected. Previous experience in junior high choirs is helpful, but not required. Belle Voix has a standard of excellence and receives has received all superior rating at festival.
